Once you are up, make your bed. I love the feeling of making my bed in the morning. It’s as if I am telling my bed, “Ha! Take that! I am seizing the day!” I also love making my bed because I feel that I have accomplished something first thing in the morning.

Next, I kneel in prayer to my Father in Heaven. Prayer is one of my favorite parts of the day. A chance to communicate with my Father and tell him what I am grateful for, my goals for the day, and what I need his help with that day. There are hundreds of books written on success, and often they recommend starting with a productive morning. In the book “The Miracle Morning,” the author suggests the first thing in the morning we should sit and recall things we are thankful for. We are lucky as LDS women to know that our grateful thoughts are heard by our loving Heavenly Father when we communicate these through prayer.

After that, I usually venture into my very sparkling clean bathroom (cleaned from the night before), splash some water on my face, and stretch a little. There is no better way to get you up in the morning then to get your blood pumping. When you don’t have time to exercise, stretch and wake up your muscles. Or jump around a few times and act a little childish! It will bring a smile to your face.

I then grab a bottle of water (remember you haven’t had water in over 8 hours) and sit to study my scriptures. I love reading my scriptures in the morning! It is the best way to get my brain flowing and my spiritual heart pumping. My mind is clear and free from distraction. When I read in the morning I avoid reading on those nights when I am too tired and unable to comprehend the words on the page.

After that I find breakfast, get ready, and usually head out the door!
