Who doesn’t like a good party? Blowing out birthday candles, catching a bouquet at a wedding, graduations, first place trophies, etc. I don’t know about you, but it is can be really easy to plan for the next big accomplishment or mile stone to wait and celebrate our success and sometimes postpone being happy with where we are now or our progress. I will be happier / better/ more attractive with a college degree or when I have a boyfriend or when I am married or whatever. How about, “I am awesome today because I finished this paper, made it to five o clock and only cried once, or I tired something new!”
“God knows of your successes; though they may seem small to you, He acknowledges and cherishes each one of them. He loves you,” (Elder Uchtdorf Living the Gospel Joyful Oct. 2014)
I try not to focus on the less desirable moments of my day but focus more on what I am grateful for. Celebrate you made it through 3 days at a new job. Celebrate the big paper was turned in. Celebrate you went to your very first yoga class, and liked it or did not like it but will try again. Celebrate you read your scriptures everyday this week or today. These little victories do not need to be elaborate, expensive, or take all day. Some of my favorites are cranking the dial to the right on my new favorite song, writing about my success in my journal (today was legendary! I ….), or pop a fresh bowl of popcorn and devour it as fast as I can with chopsticks. Find the little things in life that are worth celebrating.
